| I am Shirley Stanton, and I live in Kinder, a small town
in Southwestern Louisiana. I am a Special Education and Adult Education
teacher. In addition to Boxers, I have cats, three horses, and a Nubian
dairy goat herd. The Nubian herd was started when I learned the benefits
of raising puppies on goats milk. They have become pets more than
anything and follow me around like big dogs. They have the added benefit
of eating weeds, briars, and other unwanted plant life. I am a member of
the Calcasieu Kennel Club and the Boxer Club of Louisiana.
My life with Boxers began in 1973, shortly after my marriage. My new husband would not rest until we had a Boxer. I had lived with dogs all my life on the farm and could not see what all the fuss was about. Little did I know! Three Boxers graced our marriage. The third, Sparkle, became an American and Canadian Champion. She gave us a whirlwind showing experience. When you have one that finishes that quickly, it is hard to be patient for a normal show career. Showing has always been fun and I have made many wonderful friends, but it is the day to day companionship with my dogs that I most value. Their antics and distinct personalities are more entertaining than any television. After a hard day dealing with human problems, it is a balm to my soul to come home to their total devotion. In 1980 my marriage ended, and I came home to Kinder to take care of my aging parents and raise my son. There wasn't a lot of money left over for dog shows at that time. I decided that I would keep my bloodlines going, show them when I could, and bide my time until my human responsibilities did not take priority. The name Windwood came to be in 1981 when I bred my first litter. The Wind came from Sparkle's name, Windsong. Wood would be obvious if you saw where I live. I live nine miles from town, seven of which are dirt road. I think here would be a good place to tell you about my friend Brenda
Stuckey. I met her at the Alexandria show about 1980. In her typical
style, Brenda came over and introduced herself. I have always been
rather shy and quiet. Brenda is anything but that. I have followed in
her wake the last twenty years or so and have been much blessed for it.
I have met wonderful people through her, like Donna and Lennie Blumberg,
Darlene Vickers, and CJ Middlebrooks to name a few. We have traveled to
shows together and discussed every aspect of Boxers at length. I watched
her show and love her Am/Can Ch. Ell Bee's Sooner Bee Travlin, Buster.
They were quite a pair. I remember how excited her phone call was when
she went Group 1 with him. I watched them go BOB at our show in Lake
Charles. One of my kennel club members asked me if Buster was that good
or was it the handler. I had to smile when I answered that Brenda was
not a handler, but his owner. It was wonderful to share in Brenda and
Buster's success through the next few years. She has had quite a lot of
successes, and I have enjoyed watching her enthusiasm with each new
generation. With the coming of email, now Brenda torturesť us all with
puppy pictures. I look forward to the coming years of breeding, showing, and companionship. It is always exciting to see your ideas expressed in flesh and bone. I have met many wonderful friends during the past years, both human and canine. I look forward to making wonderful memories with these and new friends in the coming years. I still tend to be rather quiet, but I love to talk Boxers. Just come by and say hello. Past:
