July 27, 1998 My year old puppy that had a bad stomach upset and was on drip and the whole nine yards. Well, Dr. Debbie had attempted surgery last, a week ago last Friday, but he had reaction to pre anesthetic med so he was reversed and then seemed to be doing better and we did more blood work and more barium x-rays. Showed nothing, but what looked to be an ulcer in the lower part of the stomach. Well, we still were not making good progress with being able to eat and gaining any weight and so --he had lost 13 pounds --and that is major for a 70 pound boxer. He was totally pitiful. We jointly decided it was time to find out what was going on in there. After the reaction I had called Dr. Franks in Magnolia, AR ( a top ear trim vet that had done his ears at 12 weeks, and a super guy also) to see what he had used on him and he talked to Dr. Debbie and it was all scoped out. Isofloren (med dic. is at office so sure not spelling it correctly) He went out easy and heart monitor showed no problems. BUT for the strangest results in an exploratory surgery!!! A Shoulder Pad out of a silk shirt --very much in one piece and had adhered itself to the wall of the stomach. I haven't checked the silk shirt, but I am sure I know which one and it's been too hot to wear it for a while so no telling how long it's been there. AND THEN she found two pieces of a spiky plastic --which must be a hedge hog toy pieces. This had grown into the side of the stomach and had to be cut out. You could still read the numbers on the bottom of the plastic --so really don't know if that's what it is or not?? And the foam from the shoulder pad was disintegrating and was adhering to the walls of the small intestine and causing lesions. This is what her main concern is. She cleaned and medicated all of them and has Doodles on an IV and pain and antibiotic meds. He has been up and gone out to potty and when I got to clinic he knew my voice and got up and started for the door like he had been doing for 3 weeks when he had been in doggy day care there. Lucky her daughter caught him as he had IV attached, but pretty good for as sick as he is. I knew this was above my nursing capabilities for tonight, as this will be the critical time and he might spike a fever, so Dr. Debbie took him home with her. As always she goes above and beyond the call of duty. But I know I feel a lot better with him there where she can check him and keep IV running and meds as needed. It's hard for me to do, but I have had to turn this over to the Lord and Dr. Debbie Guillory. I feel he is in good hands with both. A little list power wouldn't hurt though. This is one is a little trouper. And he may never see the floor without me in attendance after the three weeks he has put us through. Thanks for listening. If anyone has had anything like this happen I would love to hear about it--if it had happy ending-- I am a nervous wreck as it is now. July 28, 1999 Doodles had his whole life in front of him, he wasn't a champion except in my heart. He never got to try his wings in the show ring. I will miss him as will his boxer buddies here at Delta. He had just been through too much and laid his head down at about 10 this am. We tried, but failed, but I know he's not hurting anymore. Doodles was sired by Can/Am/Edu/Skc Champion Breho Sanjac EZ Traveler and out of the Tie Breaker daughter, Cresthers Somethin Else. He was just 13 months old. Give all your babies an extra hug tonight.
