Our Crew 2003 Alpine Boxers

We are - Jewell and Steve Dunning - who live on three acres which over looks the city of Anchorage in Alaska.     Steve & I were married in 1979 .  Our first dog was a black male cocker spaniel which we had the pleasure of his company for 15 1/2 years.  Two years before his passing, we welcomed our miniature pinscher -“Harley”- into our family.  She became our cocker spaniel’s eyes and ears which gave him back a quality of life he so enjoyed.   Harley is a great house dog and has been in obedience classes.  I would have loved to shown her,  but she does not like to perform in front of others.  She would rather be our alarm system at home and RV protector while traveling.   We had planned after the cocker’s passing to start looking for our first boxer.  In April 1996, Tammie Hopper of Heartstrings Boxers introduced us to eight week old, “Dave”.  It was love at first sight.  Dave was just what we were looking for in a boxer. Dave has turned out to be an  awesome  performance dog earning multiple titles in many different events.

Shortly after getting Dave, Tammie took me to some dog shows - I got hooked!   After the first year of watching the boxers in conformation, I asked Tammie to find me a show puppy.   I figured it could not be much different than showing Morgan horses which I had done for years as a young girl.   In September 1997, I flew to Jonesboro  Louisiana to meet  Brenda Stuckey of Breho Boxers.  She had a six month fawn male,  “Bubba”- ready for a show home.  I just loved him.  He was spunky and so stunning.  Two days later, Bubba and I headed home to start our show careers together. Bubba made me look good even with all my handling errors.  I want to thank Brenda for giving me such a great  first show dog.  Tammie was my mentor, and she guided me through my first two years of showing Bubba.   I could never have made it without her help.  She taught me everything I needed to know:  handling, grooming, filling out forms and even let me show some of her own dogs.  I am deeply grateful.

After finishing all of Bubba’s conformation titles June  2000, I started looking for another show puppy.  This time, I wanted a bitch.   It took me till September 2001 to find “Mandy”.   During my research, I found Ch Omega’s Solid Gold in the Boxer Review.  I fell in love with his beautiful head with noble expression.  My other love was Ch Berlane’s Causin An Uproar, SOM- “Sabre”.   His exquisite outline and great movement captured my heart.  As I continued my search, I found a bitch Omega’s Love Me Love Me Not- “Daisy”- who was a daughter of Ch Omega’s Hellfire, SOM which is a son of Solid Gold.   Daisy had puppies sired by Sabre available to show homes.  WOW!  I found my girl - Mandy.  The breeders, Robert and Tina Butler of Butler Boxers made it all happen for me.  Mandy was to stay with them at Butler Boxers, but they gave her up so I could have my foundation bitch and next show puppy.   Mandy has out done anything I could have dreamed for in a puppy.

Mandy finished her championship at just under a year old.  To top off completing her title,  she took Best in Show on November 3rd, 2002, owner handled under judge Mrs. Patricia Hess at only 14 months.   I will never forget that day with her and all my friends.   I thank Tina and Robert for the opportunity to share such a beautiful girl with our family.

Last and ever so special is our  “ Ricky”.   Just a few days before Thanksgiving  2001, I got a call from Brenda telling me Bubba’s sister  Ch. Breho Heldenbrand EZ Lovin, CD, SOM - “Anna”- had her puppies.   That was the good news. The bad news was Anna died during the C-section..  She had eight healthy fawn puppies out of  Ch Holly Lane’s Wild As The Wind, SOM.- “Willie”.   Brenda wanted to know if I would be interested in one of the pups.   Karen Emerson of Emerson’s Boxers and Brenda were hoping to try and make Anna a DOM with this special litter.  I could not pass up the chance to go see the puppies.   I flew to Brenda’s home in Louisiana,  and we drove to Kansas to see all the pups which were being raised by Brenda’s bitch Ch Breho I Bee Blazin - “Lizzee“.   Lizzee had just finished raising her own five puppies just weeks before.  All the puppies were beautiful,  but one stood out with his charming personality.   He was the first puppy always wanted out of the x-pen.  As soon as I would let him out, off he would go to explore the room and all the people.  He was so out going and full of  life; I just had to take him home with me.  We could not be more pleased with him.  He started his show career with Best Puppy In Group and finished with 4 majors!.   Thank you  Karen and Brenda for giving our family such a very special boy.  We all are proud of him.
